There are many back yard breeders (BYB) out there or breeders who breed for many reasons, and some not for the health and well being of the cats or to improve the breed. Purchasing from a registered breeder is no guarantee that you will get a good quality healthy kitten or cat, however most registered breeders have a reputation to uphold and only want what is best for the cats and the breed.
A good reputable breeder will be very open and helpful about the breed, take time to answer all questions of prospective new owner.
Breeders hould supply DNA PKD certificates for parents or grandparents of kitten, will have kitten vaccinated, micro-chipped and vet health checked prior to leaving for their new home. A reputable breeder will not sell a kitten under 10-12 weeks of age.
Kittens must be free from parasites (check coat, ears, and bottoms) and should be kept in clean and hygienic surroundings.
A reputable registered breeder will know the history of their cats and should ONLY be breeding from known healthy lines. They should be up to date with all health issues concerning their chosen breed.
